Roadside Park along County Galway’s Abbey River

Roadside Park along County Galway's Abbey River.

Roadside Park along County Galway's Abbey River.

The rambling waters of the Abbey River flow through this roadside park, brightly decorated with flowers in the village of Abbey, County Galway, Ireland.

The park features two arched stone foot bridges and a sitting area decorated with flowers. Flowers also add splashes of color all along the river, which borders the roadway beyond the park.

This lovely village, located between Gort and Portumna on the R353 road, has a population of only about 250 people, but its history runs deep and the local folks have done a spectacular job making this a clean and pleasant place to take a break.

Just up from this park are the Church of the Assumption and ruins of Kilnalahan Abbey, which dates to the mid-13th Century.
